Bernadette grew up living behind her family’s own GP Medical Centre, so health care and looking after people has always been in her blood. With her father being a doctor and her mum being a nurse, naturally, she has gone on to pave her own way, in the healthcare profession. Obtaining her Enrolled Nurse qualification in 2005, she then went on to complete her first University degree at Deakin in 2006.
Being a Registered Nurse in the hospitals and community settings allowed Bernadette to consolidate many aspects of health and the human body. She discovered her passion for building ongoing patient-clinician relationships in general practice and looking after the whole family. This would often span 3 or 4 generations from the same family. She has been fortunate to gain hands on experience in cosmetic medicine and skin cancer treatments, whilst working with doctors and mentors throughout her career.
In 2016, she completed her second university degree, Graduate Diploma of Mental Health Nursing at ACU. This qualification is utilised across all aspects of her practice and is beneficial to ensuring a holistic approach to her patients’ healthcare needs. She is also a qualified yoga teacher and practices pilates. Investing in ongoing learning is paramount to Bernadette’s level of expertise and knowledge as clinician. She partakes in regular international academic conferences, and training to keep up to date and current in her practice.
In 2021, Bernadette completed her Masters at Flinders University, to become an AHPRA Endorsed Nurse Practitioner. This was a huge achievement and something that now means she can practice complete episodes of care for her patients. She practices alone but with the ongoing support and network of other clinicians, including doctors and specialist, that she will refer to whenever necessary. Bernadette also helps doctors and specialists care for their patients with her unique skill set, using a patient centered multidisciplinary approach.
